We also called this house Uncle Fred House because our US friend Kelli's Uncle's funds came into building part of it. We built this two story building as an escape for my father who’s a Buddhist monk. He has not stayed longer but he knows that the place is available if he wants to come. This place is located in Thanamalwila area in the center of a two acres farm land. It’s equipped with a patio, bathroom with hot shower, wifi, AC/ washing maschine, and tiled floor. Great for a couple to live and explore the village, or nearby safari, or beach not quite far. There’s a River just about a block away. 10 min drive to Lunugamwehera Safari. Flexible Stays: Choose to stay at this place or one of the temples/ houses for an extended period or explore different temples during your visit. We can tailor your experience based on your preferences. Adorable one bedroom with patio (aka Uncle Fred House) is 14 miles from Tissa Wewa and 30 miles from Bundala Bird Sanctuary. Located 14 miles from Situlpawwa, the property has a garden and free private parking. This apartment comes with 1 bedroom upstairs with complete privacy and separate stair case from outside with attached bathroom and a living area, a patio, and a kitchen. Towels and bed linen are available in the apartment. Kataragama Temple is 3.9 miles from the apartment, while Ranminitenna Tele Cinema Village is 11 miles from the property. The nearest airport is Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, 23 miles from Adorable one bedroom with patio (Uncle Fred House). My name is Sepala, my wife Nadeesha, and our two year old will be sharing the same house with the guests during your stays as requested by Homestay.com. I am an aspiring farmer and lives on daily vages. We have two puppies. We eat fresh vegitables, curries, with rice. We make pasta adapt to the needs of the guests as needed. We can make non-spicy organic food. My wife stays home looking after the baby. She is very quiet even in her own native language Sinhala. She has been a Sunday school teacher but now she stays home looking after the baby. She does not have much time to do gardening because her eyes are on our todler. You could learn a lot about authentic village cooking with us. The area can get little foggy at times, and soggy with occational heavy rain and thunder. We are learning English and my brother Bhante Kusala who lives in the US help us coordinate with the guests. I have a tuk tuk donated to me my brother, and I can use it to get you around. My bike is also donated by my brother and I will be happy to take you around on it. I have dropped off our former guests to the bus stand, arranged vehicles to take them to safari, and also to the airport. If needed, my sister owns a van (1994 Nisan-- not the most comfortable, nor it has AC but runs great) for travels around the country. Thanamalwila, next little town, about 4 km away, is an non tourist area, great to explore the “normal” Sri Lankan life. The house is almost at the end of a field path, very quiet. You can stay in the flat on the second floor, that means a bathroom with hot and cold shower, washing machine, a sleeping room with double bed, wifi, mosquito-net and AC, and a nice veranda, where you can enjoy the sounds of nature. You will hear peacocks, and may birds as you wake up. That sounds like luxury, doesn’t it? You could come down to use the kitchen and use the TV or the living area as always--as how homestays work. There are a few defects in the building structure, but it’s a rural area, and sometimes it is like this. I like to learn organic farming but real life forces me to work as a day to day labourer. My English is very basic so conversations sometimes can turn out to be difficult. We can try to solve this challenge by using Google Translator, and that worked surprisingly well with our previous guests. There is a national park nearby, but you can’t enter it from the village side, but the locals normally use the river, which is the natural border, for bathing and washing clothes. I took a bath twice, and at this time it was without danger and refreshing. To summarize,- if you’re interested in peeking in a rural and poor yet heartful Sri Lankan Buddhist family life, it will be a great experience for you. The whole conversation and planning of the workaway is done by one of my brothers, who live as a buddhist monk in US. His English is excellent and the conversation is on an academic and reliable level, without his help and interfering it would have not been as easy as it was for all our previous guests. You will be loved by him when you connect with him remotely.
