Farm in Puerto Jimenez

Looking to unplug from the modern world and tap into something deeper? Welcome to El Cerrito, a jungle sanctuary where off-grid living meets creativity, community, and raw nature. Nestled just outside Puerto Jiménez, Costa Rica, we’re a group of neighbors sharing a life in harmony with the land, and we invite you to become part of our story. Since 2018, over 70 visitors have joined us in co-creating this space—painting murals, crafting compost toilets, planting, and simply marveling at the rich jungle life around us. The jungle moves at its own pace, and every day brings a new lesson in living side by side with nature. We’re not a resort—there’s no staff, no frills—just us working together to maintain the farm, sharing resources, meals, and moments. The Experience This is a place for people who feel alive in nature, who aren’t afraid to shake out their shoes before putting them on, and who are comfortable with a little dirt and unpredictability. But it’s also a space for peace, reflection, and creation—a place to explore your own projects, relax into the natural world, and be inspired by the powerful energy of the land. Visitors come to El Cerrito to slow down and immerse themselves in the magic of the jungle. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, personal reflection, or a space to work on your own creative projects, El Cerrito offers a peaceful environment that’s far from the distractions of modern life. As a visitor, you’ll have the chance to explore the endless jungle trails, spot wildlife like monkeys and sloths, and even enjoy the pristine beach just 10 minutes away. We provide simple, rustic accommodations and home-cooked meals made with love. You can also join us on guided tours of the land and community, exploring the biodiversity and local culture. There’s no set schedule—your time here is yours to shape, whether you’re lounging in a hammock, painting, or connecting with others over family-style dinners.
It is both wild and rustic here. This is a place for people who will be comfortable with spiders, with shaking out your shoes for critters before you put them on, for getting wet and getting dirty. You may see scorpions, you may see snakes. (They don’t ask for permission to come in.) It is a place where you have to be present and aware to be safe, and to be a peaceful neighbor to the many types of life we coexist with. It is also not a resort, and not supported by a staff. It’s just us working together and sharing with what we have. The structures are rustic, the systems can be affected by a storm, and patience and flexibility are a must. This is a truly nature-based experience, and to come here is to be welcomed in as part of the ecosystem, not separate from it.
