The girls are grown up and moved away but visit every now and then and do their grocery shopping on my pantry. I live in the suburbs of Washington, DC metropolitan area. I don't have any problem dropping/picking guests up at the metro. The entire lower level (finished basement) with a full bath has complete privacy. This is the same level I use for couchsurfers and would be available for homestay. I live with my wife and our 4-legged boss, a 7-lb Chihuahua. We have a huge deck and an even bigger patio below it. We have a conservatory with a baby grand piano, living room, formal dining room, den, library, half bath and kitchen on the first level. The second floor has 4 additional br with 3 full baths. I can host a single traveler or max of two traveling together.
On weekdays, I would appreciate if guests are back by midnight. Cars are necessary. I do not give out keys and alarm code. Also, the French door leading outside into the patio should only be opened in case of fire or emergency. It's advisable to coordinate time of arrival/departure as we both go to work. Although my wife and I normally leave for work at 6:00 am, I Could use a little flexibility and leave at 7:00 am which means, guests would have to leave too. My wife gets home between 7:00 - 8:00 pm but I'm usually home at 4:15pm. The house alarm is set at night and the monitor company would notify the police or fire department in case of emergency, break in or one of the doors or windows are opened.
