ALL ARE WELCOME HERE! We live modern off grid in the middle of the wilderness close to the BWCA, Superior Hiking Trails and Lake Superior with sled dogs! You can immerse yourself in our lifestyle during your stay and meet the sled dogs and/or us our Guest Suite for your home base for adventure. It has its own bathroom and full kitchen and can sleep up to 6 but can't seem to make that work with the pricing here so book for 4 and then ask me. We share a special list of nearby natural sights with all of our guests. Minnesota's highest waterfall is just up the road. We have 19 sled dogs and 2 Australian Shepherds.

Welcome to Points Unknown, one of the most unique and experiential lodging options you will find! *Staying remotely and off grid at a sled dog kennel is very different than staying in town. Here are some important things you’ll need to know about your stay. Check in time: 4PM – 8PM Check out time: 10AM UPON ARRIVAL • Sign risk waiver • Orientation to my modern off-grid home and your private space • Set up time to visit with the sled dogs, if you wish • Set up time to tour the beeswax candle workshop, if you wish SLED DOG INTERACTION • Please treat the dogs with the utmost of respect • They are on a strict performance diet so please no sharing your food with them • Keep all kennel gates, dog crates and common doors leading to where sled dogs live and play, CLOSED unless accompanied by a staff member at Points Unknown. Off-Grid HOUSEKEEPING TOPICS • Remove shoes in porch. • Quietest time is from 9PM until 7AM. Quiet is appreciated at all other times. Know that when living with sled dogs, unusual circumstances can arise that cause the dogs to make noise they may otherwise not make such as if wildlife comes near the property or if we have a weather event and need to move the dogs to safety. Otherwise, the dogs are generally quiet. • Please do not use perfumes or scented products. • Our delicious drinking water comes from our own well. • We have indoor plumbing! Please note that toilet paper and all other sanitary products are to be placed in the hands-free garbage bin and not flushed down the toilet. We practice “mellow yellow”. • We ask that our guests help to conserve our precious resources by limiting the length and number of showers whenever possible. A shower every other night, during a stay, is considered reasonable water usage with no more than two showers being taken by folks in your party, per day. • If you find that you require a specialized kitchen tool/utensil that doesn’t appear in the kitchenette, please ask and we might be able to rustle one up from our kitchen. There is a fire extinguisher on the counter to the right of the stove. • The microwave is for storage only and for use of the vent for when cooking so as not to set off the smoke alarm. Children • Our guest suite may not be suitable for some children under the age of 12 due to the multiple safety requirements associated with a kennel of sled dogs and our remote location. • Children must be attended to by an adult at all times and not left to wander the common areas or property alone. What does "off-grid" look like at Points Unknown? • The Points Unknown Guest Suite is located within our off-grid homestead, in Minnesota’s remote north woods, 35 minutes northeast of Grand Marais. We are located 7 miles from the conventional grid. Our energy comes from 16 solar panels mounted on the roof of our homestead. We have 24 batteries in which this solar energy is stored. On cloudy days, we have a propane generator that produces the energy used and stored. Propane, having a by-product of water, lessens our carbon footprint. We ask that our guests help us conserve our energy wherever possible. • There are no phone lines in our area, however if AT&T is your carrier, you will enjoy the ability to make phone calls freely as we do, from a few locations in the house. Our phone is available for emergencies only. • No Wifi. We require limited satellite internet service to run our businesses and it is not available to guests. Unplug, relax and enjoy your time in the wilderness! If you need to get a message to someone, we are happy to do this for you. Since we live remotely and are a significant distance from the hospital and fire department, be aware of safety at all times. 911 does NOT work if you do not have AT&T and find yourself with a Canadian (Rogers network) signal. The Cook County Sheriff Department dispatch number is 218.370.3030 Above all else, we do hope you enjoy your time in the peaceful north woods as much as we do. If there is anything we can do to help make your stay a more relaxing and memorable one, please just ask.
